Critiquing Photography

This is my most successful image because it satisfies the interpretive photographic category by remaining subjective and excluding exposition, leaving impressions and conclusions of the meaning entirely up to the viewer. I have a personal conclusion to the meaning of this image, but I could imagine various interpretations of this image by each viewer. I found the most challenging aspect of this assignment to be making sure I considered how my audience would perceive these images in their respective categories as I shot the images rather than considering my just interpretation alone. In the future, after getting these categories under my belt, I would create stronger images by being able to find moments where these categories speak to me, rather than me seeking out these categories.

My comment on Rachel's page (https://rachelkrams.wixsite.com/rachel-s-photos/post/critiquing-photo-challenge)

Hi Rachel, I think this image successfully captures the realities of outdoor weather while skiing on a mountain. As a viewer, I am drawn to feel the warmth of the soup in the cold winter air. My suggestions for making this image more appealing would be cropping the image down to focus more on the soup instruction process. You might also try focusing on the soup mug in your hand as an alternative version, although your choice in focus really captures the explanatory category well! - Keely McKenna
